Cucumbers

Cucumbers

Start these indoors for the earliest crops, planting ½ inch deep in
peat posts or Jiffy's.
The reason I specify this is because cucumbers do not take very kindly
to being transplanted. In Jiffy pots or peat pots, you simply
transplant the entire thing, thereby never disturbing the roots of the
new plants.

Cukes may be sown directly after May 24th, usually… although lately,
Muskoka spring and summer seasons have often tended to be somewhat
testy!!

A good rule of thumb is to plant, then cover with plastic immediately
until the weather stabilizes. The covering ill also help in faster
germination. A cloche would be ideal.

There are many varieties of cucumber for the home gardener available
today from long slicers to gherkins.

Days to maturity on the whole are between 46 to 65 days, depending on
the variety.
