Lettuce

Lettuce

Loose leaf varieties --- sow these directly as soon as the ground can
be worked.
Pick frequently for continued production..
Most loose leaf varieties are what is known as 'cut-and-come-again' -
so don't just remove a few larger leaves, but CUT the entire bunch
down, and the plant will renew itself.
Simply removing a few leaves will cause the plant to halt production
and bolt within a short space of time.

Head lettuce:
Sow indoors mid-February to March. Transplant in April, after
hardening off. Lettuce also appreciates partial shading.
Keep plants 12 inches apart. Heads mature July-August.

For a late crop, plant directly in late June to early July in order to
mature just before frost sets in.

Days to maturity: 75-94
