Apples prefer to grow where they get adequate winter chilling and
typically
the varieties generally best for cider would be those which need 1000-1200
hours chilling.
I know that there are some cider varieties (such as 'Cox's Pomona')
available in Australia but you'll need to try somewhere like Badgers Keep
in
Victoria which is one of the specialist old apple variety provider for
plants.
