Have just been maintaining through this part of the summer, had to pull
a few water hyacinths from the little pond as they were taking over- too
shady for them to bloom but they get enough sun to look perky and offer
welcome shade and cover to the goldfish- had taken a few of the plants
to a neighbor a couple months back for there new pond and unbeknownst
they ended up with a few goldfish out of the deal. Goldfish seem to be
about as prolific as water hyacinth.
Trip to Lowes today indicated a lot of marked down stuff, pentas for .25
and orchids at half off were some of the specials. i didn't bite this
trip.
The shrimp plants which were flush with bloom for some months have very
few "shrimp" at present so fertilized them a week or two ago.
Hummingbirds best deal right now are the red pentas, and feeder.
The elephant ear baby which was planted by the little pond in the spring
is large and in bloom now.
Over all, everything that died to the ground seemingly foreever last
winter (January) has come back, though some of it (one hibiscus, and a
varigated bouganvillia, and bleeding heart) have not yet bloomed despite
various shots of fertilizer from time to time.
Here are a few yard pictures from Aug 7th

Should be planning a few vegetables to plant here and there for a fall
garden, seems like early Sept is the time for that. Broadcast some kale
seeds last year and they did pretty well. Time for a few more herbs too
if they can be found
my email address changed from attbi.com to comcast.net since I last
wrote so hope this works.
