cutting back firebush

by Barbara Cox <barbaracox@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sep 14, 2003 at 08:50 PM

whenever I walk around the side of the house I have the inclination to
cut the firebushes back so they would branch out some more. Did it once
a number of months ago with good results.

My concern is that like the poinsettia which you don't want to cut after
August or so, that it would cut off the part that would be turning red
soon this autumn. As of now there are very few red tops and I trimmed
most of them back in May or June I would guess.

Anyone have any rule of thumb about cutting these?

(They died to the ground in the January's freeze but have come back
nicely from the roots, now over head high again.
Thanks
