The cool temps, once in the ground, should only affect the foliage.  I
don't
know where you are located.  Mine get ratty looking in the winter (yellow
banana trees all over town in the winter) but the roots survive and they
grow new leaves (I'm in Central Fl., btw).  Most im****tant thing is they
like a lot of water (which they may not be getting in pots - they may be
very pot bound?) and they are heavy feeders.
