Tomatoes love heat/sun. I am originally from KY where I used to be abl=
e to
grow wonderful tomatoes. I haven't had any luck at all with them since=
I
moved down here - I even tried growing them in large containers with go=
od
soil because I thought that was the problem.
There are so many durned bugs and birds eating on them - that was the
problem I had. I've had so many failures with tomatoes since moving do=
wn
here that I just quit trying.
As for the lettuce (I'm not sure about cabbage), I only know about leaf=
lettuce - and that is a cold weather plant like broccoli, peas, etc - w=
e
always started them early back home. Tomatoes would live if you plante=
d
them earlier but they wouldn't grow/thrive until it got hot.
