Can't you tell from the noise, a 2 stroke sounds like it's revving at
twice
the speed of a 4 stroke and they tend to pop and splutter especially when
slowing down. The top of the engine in a 2 stroke will have fins like the
barrel whereas a 4 stroke has the valve gear on top.
Check the sump, if it has oil in it, it's a 4 stroke. BTW if so, change
the
oil, you don't know when/if it's ever been changed.
