I'd contact the local pest controller. He may have prior knowledge of them,

or at least would be able to find out what to do. Just phone him up and
tell 
him the problem, ask if it can be remedied and at what cost. It may end up

being something very simple but unobvious. Or it could be that the patio 
needs to go...
