If it's from a cutting or from seed I doubt you have done anything wrong, 
ours stayed almost the same as when we bought it for 5 years and in the
6th 
it grew 20 ft. They have to get their roots down first and then they take 
off.
A grafted plant grows quicker from the start but they don't seem so
vigorous 
in the end.
