(1) My dear old mum has a very pretty cottage garden with an abundance of
poppies of all different verieties growing in it. This year she had a
bumper crop, so many that she collected a bag full for me to seed in my
garden.
I understand that I need to till the soil finely and sprinkle and hoe in
up
to 1/2 an inch below the surface (unless anyone knows different) but when
is
the best time to sow the poppy seeds.
(2) Visited a Maize Maze the other day which had heaps of giant
sunflowers
growing in amongst the corn. As the maze was about to be cut for sileage
the organisers did not object to me taking a pocket full of sunflower
seeds
home which I have dried out on a tray. My quandry is twofold - a. When
is
the best time of year to plant sunflower seeds and b. should they be sown
in trays first, put on blotting paper/kitchen towel and soaked until the
sprowt and then planted or just chucked into the soil and lightly hoed in.
What I would really like to do is mix the poppy seeds and sunflower seeds
and just chuck them onto the soil followed by a light hoeing but somehow I
dont think this is the way to go.
Advice, once again, would be most welcome.
Thanks
Andy
