Keeping the grass mowed short, dispersing the soil brought to the surface,
rolling the surface flat , seems all that is necessary to dissuade the
ants
from doing serious harm on my lawns, though the grren woodpeckers continue
to visit for the rich pickings to be had from unending ant supplies.
In undug parts of the shrubbery I sometimes find ' ant cities ' , mounds
of
upto a foot or so high where generations of ants have been 'building'
undisturbed for years ~ until eventually a spade is needed to remove the
excess top soil.
