Certainly if you live in the South you could plant them in the garden in a
warm protected spot.
If you grow them on a saucer it's a one off thing and you throw them away
afterwards. Pot them up if you don't want them in the garden and treat
them
like a begonia, but the tuber will expand so make sure the pot is big
enough.
