I don't know where you are or what kind of tree the chips came from, but
most chips will soon attract termites. Cedar is one of the exceptions.
If
your area isn't bothered with termites too much, you are OK.
Wood chips will also draw from the nutrients, while composting, that your
lawn will need. As long as you fertilize them as needed, you can overcome
that problem.
