So, would anybody have suggestions for material to build raised beds
out of? I'm looking to build several sets of 4ft wide, 8+ft long
raised beds (time to get rid of all that grass, I'm tired of cutting
it already). I looked at buying and using 1'*16'*1" lumber (sorry,
maybe I got that wrong, boards that are 1ft wide, 16ft long, and 1
inch thick), but the prices I was getting quoted were about $20/board,
which seemed kind of steep. Plus somebody mentioned that it's termite
bait.
But when I look around, other things cost about the same. I tried to
build a simple 4'x 4' raised beds out of the 37cent bricks from
walmart, but it ended up costing a bit more than the boards (and then
there's the ugly factor). I'd been thinking to get a lot of the
8"x8"x16" cinder blocks from HPM (which would probably still cost a
lot, but would last a really long time), but then I was jogging the
other day and saw some raised beds made out of the metal roofing
material, which may be available as scrap somewhere. And then figured
I'd ask around a bit to see what other people might use.
Thanks,
-Zach
