As a (coffee) farmer, my guess is that both of those ideas are urban
myths. Mangoes are not consistent bearers. Some years are
overwhelming and some are not.
I think the nail thing came about because people thought the iron in
the nail would get into the tree and make it stronger. Pruning may not
make it bear more fruit but it may help it be a stronger tree.
