It is goutweed. I feel your pain. One of the most invasive weeds I have 
seen. It is relatively shallow rooted and easy to dig out but that is cold

comfort when you have as much as I do. Worse when it gets in your flower 
beds and the roots intertwine with your perennials. I have to dig it out 
every spring. Bindweed is getting as bad as the goutweed in my garden. I 
hate that one even worse. It's a constant battle trying to keep ahead of
it.

Feeling guilty, must go weed the back flower beds.
