Actually, if you mow low, which is bad for your grass, you'll encourage
the
weeds to takeover as your grass dies off. Mowing regularly to keep an
even
long length to you grass will help crowd out the weeds and encourage your
grass to grow because it will maintain a better moisture level and cooler
soil. Nothing beats a regular long mow for the health of your lawn.
Between clover, lime twice a year, 15-15-15 fertiliser lightly once a
year,
and regular long mulch mowing I'm making headway even against the dreaded
gout weed infestation. This year I've started clearing some of the bad
patches of goutweed by hand pulling the roots and reseeding little patches
with shady or sunny grass mixed with clover. I don't mind the gout weed
so
much. If you keep the heads mowed off it looks like grass, but it crowds
out flower beds something awful. If the lawn was perfect, I'd have
nothing
to do when I'm doing nothing.
