Sometimes I pour the borax straight into the little ants mounds if I see
them but usually at the beginning of each season I mix the borax with
silica
sand (available at Masonry Supplies) and sweep it all over my patio. My
patio is not that large and I would use maybe half a box of laundry borax
in
a gallon bucket of sand. The borax can be purchased in the laundry
detergent section at the Wal-Mart and supermarkets. I might reapply it in
spots throughout the season, or when the patio was new, I might need to do
a
general re-application once or twice more during the summer. Borax is
considered an environmentally friendly product but it definitely kills all
plant material it comes in contact with so be careful where you put it (my
sons mistakenly once used it to set up a game of horseshoes and it killed
all the grass it touched.) Hope this helps.
