LOL. That's not the flower bed I was thinking of. I was thinking of
something much smaller.
I have numerous raised beds but nothing against a structure. Without
seeing it, it's hard to advise, but I would still want some barrier
between the house and the soil...even if it's only up against concrete
(which would be much better than having it up against wood/siding). If
it's just concrete, just insert a barrier that has been painted with
something that will protect it from rot. (Unless you plan to put food in
there...then you need a plastic barrier sup****ted by a piece of plywood
or 2x12...and nothing painted with anything). Don't run the plastic more
than a few inches from the house. Unless its a fair grade, water will
collect. In the end, you just need to assure the soil isn't in direct
contact with the house (especially any wood parts).
And when you fill it with soil, use a lot of peat. I would go as far as
cutting it 50/50 with the regular bagged soil. For a 2x20, I would
estimate you need two to three big bags of peat and roughly 30 bags of
bagged soil (somewhere in that neighbourhood). Also a little sheep
manure, bone meal and compost).
