I have a "spreading" type of bamboo in my backyard (northern New
Jersey) (spreaded from my neighbor property). It works "OK" to act as
a privacy screen. But I won't choose it purely as a privacy screen
because they are spreading a bit too far apart and don't grow dense
enough to provide a good screen (definitely not good enough for a pool
area). For example, I can clearly see through a 8-ft deep bamboo
screen. A non-spreading clump type bamboo is probably a better choice
to work as a privacy screen based on my observation of some clump type
bamboo growing in my neighborhood.
