Crepe Myrtles are pretty hardy. I would do it now. I would
prune them pretty drastically to minimize water loss. If it got
really dry, plan to hand water, but remember to water deep not
shallow.
Get as large a root ball as you can. I bought a narrow long
bladed long handle shovel so I could go as deep as possible when
I transplanted some. All lived. Now is a really good time with
the recent rain making digging easier.
