Throwing down sod without being able to provide enough water
for it to become established is throwing money down the toilet.
Personally I'd look at something like a clover or trefoil
or a fast establi****ng prairie grass for erosion control.
That could include winter rye mixed with a bit of perrenial rye,
but you need to do that sooner rather than later.
I'd even consider grabbing a pound or few of flax seeds from whole
foods as something to stabilize the soil.
I'd then look into something like creeping mahonia, junipers,
perrenial chamomile, etc, etc
