I.e. Centranthus ruber, grows abundantly on the sand dunes and waste
places around here. We see three colour types: a good bricky red, a
pale magenta and a white. But, despite the fact that they all grow
together, there are never any intermediate shades; no pale pinks, for
example. Why should this be?
